Culture Shock

A "lost boy" Peter who had just arrived in US from a refugee camp in Sudan is finding it difficult assimilating into the American culture. After living all his life in Sudan, Peter is forced to leave after the second civil war. Peter is then given the chance to move to America for a better life however, he needs to learn to adapt to the American culture. Peter is able to speak English however, he needs to take classes as he is not fluent and will definitely need it in America. Peter first thought that he would get an education by going to the US but instead was given a job in a factory.Peter arrived in Houston but after a few months he decides that he is not getting an education and will move to Kansas city looking to go to school. Peter sees that he is different from the other Americans and is finding it hard to fit into his school. He is also conflicted against Prejudice statements made by Americans about his race and skin color. For example, when peter works at Wal-Mart, the boss says that he and the other Africans can work outside as it is hot in Africa. Peter first had a culture shock as It was almost a different world to Sudan. However, Peter had to find someway to cope with this. Peter goes on to learn about the American culture and begins to adapt to it. He makes friends from school who can teach him more about their culture. Peter learns English to be able to communicate to others better. Peter first had a culture shock when he arrived but, after spending more time in the foreign country he is able to assimilate into the American culture.
